Terms of Use

1. Agreement to these Terms

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and Tan Zhi Ying Kimberley, an individual sole proprietor based in Singapore (“Jiak Simi”, “we”, “us”, “our”), governing your use of the Jiak Simi app (the “App”) and the website jiaksimi.ai (the “Site”). By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Who can use Jiak Simi

You must be at least 13 years old. By using the App you confirm you meet this and that the information you give us is accurate.

3. What Jiak Simi does

Jiak Simi helps you discover places to eat in Singapore by building a personal taste profile (your “Palate Compass”) from a short quiz and the places you rate, then recommending matching restaurants.

This is a beta release. You are using a pre-release (beta) version of Jiak Simi, provided for testing. It may contain bugs, may change or stop working, and its features and data may be reset during testing. We provide the beta “as is” for evaluation, and we welcome your feedback.

Recommendations are suggestions, not guarantees. Restaurant information — taste tags, prices, opening status, dietary suitability, locations — comes from third-party sources (such as Google and restaurant websites) and automated AI tagging, and may be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate.

You are responsible for your own dietary and safety decisions. Always check directly with a restaurant about ingredients, allergens, halal certification, or anything affecting your health or religious requirements. Do not rely on the App for these. Our halal, vegetarian, vegan, no-beef, and allergen-related indicators are automatically inferred from third-party data and may be wrong; halal status in Singapore is a formal MUIS matter that only the restaurant or the certifying authority can confirm.

Allergies — please read. The App does not offer allergen filtering and never tells you a place is safe for an allergy. Where we show an allergen-related note, it is a prompt to go and ask the restaurant — based on the general type of food a place serves, not on its kitchen, ingredients, preparation, or cross-contamination practices. The absence of a warning does not mean a place is safe. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, always confirm directly with the restaurant.

4. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for activity under it. Tell us promptly (Section 14) if you think it’s been compromised. You may delete your account any time (Section 9).

Using the App before you sign up. You can start using the App before creating an account. These Terms apply from your first use. During that time your activity is held against a temporary anonymous account, which becomes your account if you sign up (see the Privacy Policy, Section 2.1).

5. Payments

Jiak Simi is free to use. There is no paid subscription, no in-app purchase, and no payment of any kind in this version of the App — every feature described in these Terms is available to every user at no cost. We do not ask for, collect, or store payment details.

We may introduce optional paid features in future. If we ever do, we will update these Terms, and all prices, billing, and renewal terms will be shown in the App before you buy anything. Nothing you use today will start costing money without your explicit agreement at that time.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to: - break any law, or use the App for any unlawful or harmful purpose; - copy, scrape, harvest, or extract our restaurant data, taste tags, or recommendations in bulk, or use them to build or train a competing product or dataset; - reverse-engineer, tamper with, overload, or attempt unauthorised access to the App or its systems; - upload or share — in a shared list, feedback, or any text or content you submit — anything unlawful, infringing, offensive, or that impersonates another person; - misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any restaurant or business.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms.

7. Content you submit

You are responsible for content you submit. You grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, and display your content only as needed to operate the relevant feature. We may remove content that breaches these Terms.

Reporting content. If someone shares a Jiak List with you and it is offensive, misleading, or not a genuine list of places, you can report it from the list’s preview screen in the App. For anything else, contact us (Section 14). A report is linked to your account rather than anonymous, so that we can follow up with you about it; see the Privacy Policy, Section 2.1.

Shared lists. If you publish a Jiak List to a shareable link, anyone with the link can view it, including the username of the sharer, and save their own copy. Personal data such as real name and user location will not be exposed. You can stop sharing at any time by un-publishing it (from the list’s ⋯ menu, or by deleting the list), which disables the link so it no longer opens. Copies others already saved before you un-published remain theirs and are not affected.

List cover photos. A photo you set as a list’s cover is stored privately and shown only to you — it is not displayed to people you share the list with. You confirm you have the right to any photo you upload and that it doesn’t infringe anyone’s rights or contain unlawful content. Deleting your account deletes your cover photos.

Importing from links. When you paste a link to import places, we process the link and the text you provide (for YouTube links, we may also read the video’s public title and description). You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to share that content, and for complying with the source platform’s terms.

Feedback. Any feedback, suggestions, or ideas you send us, we may use freely and without any obligation or payment to you.

8. Intellectual property

The App, the Site, the Jiak Simi name and branding, the Palate Compass model, the archetype characters, the taste tags and recommendation content, and all related software and design are owned by us (or our licensors) and protected by IP laws. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. You get no other rights. Restaurant and map content from third parties (such as Google) remains subject to those third parties’ terms.

9. Account deletion and termination

You can delete your account any time in Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete my Account (type DELETE to confirm). Deletion is immediate and permanent — your data is removed and cannot be recovered, and saved lists and cover photos are lost.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the App (with reasonable notice where we can).

10. Disclaimers

The App is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that recommendations, restaurant information, prices, dietary tags, or availability will be accurate or suitable for your needs. You use recommendations at your own discretion and remain responsible for your own choices — including anything affecting your health, allergies, or religious dietary requirements.

11. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Subject to that, our total aggregate liability to you for direct loss arising out of or connected with the App in any 12-month period is limited to S$250. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or loss of profits, goodwill, or data, to the extent permitted by law.

12. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify us against third-party claims and reasonable costs arising directly from your unlawful use of the App or your infringement of a third party’s rights through content you submit.

13. Third-party services

The App relies on and links to third-party services (Apple, Google, our hosting, AI, crash-reporting, and push providers). We’re not responsible for those services; your use of them is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

13.1 Google Maps

The App includes Google Maps features and content. By using the App, you agree that your use of Google Maps features and content is subject to the then-current versions of:

14. Changes, governing law, and contact

We may update these Terms. For a material change, we will notify you in the App or by email before it takes effect; a material change will not apply retrospectively. If you do not agree to a material change, you must stop using the App and delete your account. These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore courts. Questions? hello@jiaksimi.ai.

15. General

16. Apple- and Google-specific terms
